HEALTH + SAFETY

OUR TEAM

Though Education and development are important, we know that nothing matters more than the safety, security, and health of your child, especially during the global COVID-19 pandemic. That’s why at The Lighthouse safeguards and preparedness are critical considerations in everything we do.

All teachers and staff extensively train on health and safety practices, including Fire Drills, First Aid, CPR, AED, and COVID training. And we work closely with the Philadelphia Department of Health and follow CDC guidelines on protocols and procedures.

MEDICATION

We administer medication to your child under strict protocols to ensure their protection. Based on new research about healthy practices for infants and toddlers, we require a doctor’s note for any medication, both prescription or over-the-counter, given to a child under 2 years of age to ensure safety.

WELLNESS

From ensuring a clean and healthy environment for children to first aid training for emergency situations, we ensure that every child is happy and healthy. You can have confidence every day that your child is cared for in a secure, nurturing environment.

We assess every child’s health by talking with parents and monitoring for symptoms throughout the day. We increase assessment during flu season and notify parents when a child feels sick to prevent an illness from spreading.

LEADERSHIP

Our Health and Safety Manager leads and coordinates child health information, staff health assessments, screenings, and clearance compliances for our staff. The Health and Safety Manager provides high-quality health services for Early Head Start, Head Start, Pre-K Counts, and all of The Lighthouse’s family engagement services. We work diligently to ensure that your child is healthy and kept safe while in our care.

CLEANLINESS

We clean our centers each day with safe, non-toxic cleaning products, which are locked safely out of reach of children. While other childcare providers clean toys each evening, The Lighthouse sanitizes toys throughout the day. We sing and teach lessons about health and hygiene to children to wash their hands. Diapering is conducted in an area separate from children’s play areas.

SECURITY

Only authorized staff and families may enter our buildings. Children can enjoy outdoor play with safety perimeters. Our buildings include regularly checked smoke detectors and fire extinguishers. Radiators and heaters are covered to prevent your child from injury. We use window guards (except for fire escapes) and cap electrical outlets.
