Hi Lighthouse Family

We’re excited to invite your child to participate in a Youth Charette hosted by Play It Safe Philly! This is a unique, interactive session where young people can share their ideas and experiences about sports, play, and safety in their neighborhoods.

What Is a Youth Charette?
A Youth Charette is not a lecture. It’s a hands-on conversation where youth voices lead, and adults listen and support. Participants will have the chance to:

  • Talk openly about what’s working and what’s not in sports and play in their community
  • Share ideas for safer spaces, better programs, and stronger support for youth
  • Work together to shape solutions that make neighborhoods safer and more fun

Who Can Participate?
We welcome youth involved in school-based sports, after-school programs, community recreation, and unstructured out-of-school time. Young people who want safer spaces to play, train, and hang out are encouraged to join.

Adults Involved
Coaches, mentors, program staff, and community leaders will be present to listen, facilitate, and collaborate—not to lecture.

What to Expect:

  • Guided discussions in small groups with adult facilitators
  • Opportunities to answer questions like:
    • “What would an ideal safe play space look like?”
    • “Where do you feel safe, and where don’t you?”
    • “What barriers stop you from participating in sports or play?”
  • Snack breaks and a chance to share insights with the larger group

Session Details:

  • Participants: 20–24 youth per site
  • Materials: Worksheets, snacks, and drinks provided
  • Special Thanks: Participants may receive gift cards or swag
